For the first time in decades, Cincinnati Ballet performs ballet’s original romantic comedy, Don Quixote!
This full-length story ballet is a high-energy, sunny romp through the Spanish countryside based on Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel, choreographed by ballet megastar Anna-Marie Holmes after Marius Petipa. With castanets, fiery flamenco and (of course!) a sword battle with a windmill, it’s pure fun for the whole family.
Join Don Quixote on his fanciful quest to find love and prove chivalry is not dead! With a spicy score by Ludwig Minkus performed by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa.
Audiences are immersed in an adventure filled with romance, tragedy, and comedy, including such famous scenes as the duel between Don Quixote and a windmill. The ballet has long been acclaimed for its virtuoso dancing, and the choreography paints a story infused with the ideals of knighthood, chivalry, and Don Quixote’s love affair with Dulcinea.
Based on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote is considered ballet's original romantic comedy. The Don, with his trusted squire, Sancho Panza, embarks on an adventure in sunny Spain.
