16 films compete for the top spot in Cincinnati Museum Center's OMNIMAX® Theater
CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is giving you the chance to send your favorite films to the big dance on the big screen. Official brackets for the museum’s MAX Madness were released today featuring 16 classic OMNIMAX® films vying for the title of champion. Online voting for the four-week tournament begins Monday, March 3. Updated brackets will be released Tuesday each week until a champion is crowned on March 31.
You can print your own brackets or fill out a digital bracket online atcincymuseum.org/max-madness. Each week, four brackets with the highest number of correct films will win two OMNIMAX® tickets. Digital brackets must be filled out by March 9.
From the depths of the ocean to the farthest reaches of space, CMC’s Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater takes you beyond the screen, into the film itself as adventure unfolds around you. The OMNIMAX® Theater has dazzled over nine million viewers since it opened in 1990, screening nearly 100 films. Since its transition to digital in 2018, CMC has screened 23 films, including new releases and classics. Sixteen of those films made the MAX Madness bracket and though only one champion will be crowned, the Final Four will be screened in limited releases in April and May.
Matchups feature films with similar strengths – like the adorable nose-to-nose action of 4th-seeded Superpower Dogs versus 13th-seeded Backyard Wilderness – and wildcard duels like the dazzling starbursts and nebulas of 5th-seeded Deep Skyversus the pastel-painted, cigar smoke-soaked tropical paradise of 12th-seeded Cuba: Journey to the Heart of the Caribbean.
Fans of adventure will find it in Volcanoes: Fires of Creation, Ancient Caves and National Parks Adventure.
Animal lovers will have plenty to cheer for in Serengeti: Journey to the Heart of Africa and Great Bear Rainforest.
History buffs can fast track their brackets as D-Day: Normandy 1944 and Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs sit on opposite sides of the bracket.
Of course, every bracket has their Cinderella story, so don’t count out Into America’s Wild (14 seed), Blue Whales (15 seed) or Hubble, a sneaky good film sitting in the 16 seed.
Whether you vote by dome screened memory or by the merits of the film poster, fill out your bracket to send your favorite film to the big dance on the big screen.
Voting opens Monday, March 3 with a 16-film slate of matchups. Future rounds of voting will open each Tuesday with the champion crowned on Monday, March 31. Refresh your memory by viewing the film trailers at cincymuseum.org/max-madness.
If you need an OMNIMAX® Theater refresher, enjoy a few screenings of too-new-for-the-bracket films including T. REX and The Blue Angels – both showing now – or Space: The New Frontier, opening March 14.
