Primarily at the Goggin Ice Center, assists with maintaining university facilities by performing complex operations in a specialized field. Hours for this position are typically Sunday through Thursday, 5:00 pm to 1:00 am, with reasonable flexibility in support of facility events.

Job Description
Description:

  • Performs general maintenance repairs on facility components and systems
  • Operate and maintain ice surfaces using ice resurfacer and other related equipment
  • Repair and sharpen skates
  • Monitors activities of the facility to ensure the smooth flow of operations and that all systems are fully functional 
  • Identifies and corrects problems in equipment or procedure
  • Ensures the facility is in compliance with all pertinent University, local, and state rules and regulations
  • Hours for this position are typically Sunday through Thursday 5 pm to 1 am with reasonable flexibility in support of facility events 

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

  • Maintains inventory of materials and supplies; orders as necessary
  • Oversee receiving of materials and supplies
  • Oversee student staff, establishes work schedules and assigns tasks
  • Monitors and reviews performance; ensures that any necessary corrections or changes are made

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires nine months of technical training beyond high school and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Requires driver’s license

  • Knowledge of unit operations
  • Mechanical skills
  • Knowledge of computer and unit applications
  • Supervisory skills
  • Ability to complete on-going Certified Ice Technician training

 

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds
  • Somewhat disagreeable working conditions
  • Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable

 

Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Pre-employment drug testing may be required for this position
  • On the job ice maintenance and equipment operation training provided
