Job Description Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director of Creative Services and Fan Engagement is an integral part of the Miami University Athletic Department and is responsible for the development and execution of all activities intended to increase and stimulate fan, campus and community engagement for the Miami Athletic Department. In conjunction with the Associate Athletic Director of Revenue Generation, the successful candidate with be responsible for the following: the strategic direction, oversight, coordination, leadership and active participation in the revenue generating and external functions of the Department. This is a managerial position that oversees full-time staff and is responsible for their development and supervision. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged.

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollege Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.


Job Description
PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Responsible for developing communication and promotional concepts, planning and strategies that significantly increase exposure of Miami University Athletics while simultaneously increasing tickets sales, attendance at athletic events, and overall campus awareness
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the external team to accomplish goals, engage the university, fan and alumni community in promoting and supporting Intercollegiate Athletics
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the external team, campus partners and student leadership to engage undergraduate Miami University students in an effort to create awareness, activity, attendance and participation in and around Intercollegiate Athletics sporting events
  • Responsible for working in conjunction with University Communication & Marketing, members of the external team, specific ticketed sports, coaches and administrators, to help craft marketing and advertising strategy in support of Miami Athletics
  • Emphasis on game day environment and fan engagement, to positively impact attendance to create an exciting experience for constituents and student-athletes   
  • Manage full-time and student staff of creatives in an effort to enhance Miami Athletics brand through all marketing channels

 

STAFFING

  • Oversee the development and growth of full-time staff
  • Serve as the primary voice and unit leader for all personnel and items related to marketing communications and fan engagement
  • Supervise, direct and oversee a team and unit leaders that consists of External Communications (publications, student groups, fan correspondence, publications, fan events, brand recognition and management); graphics, video content and the video board
  • Oversee spirit group/cheerleaders & connection with band

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three-five years’ experience at an NCAA Division I institution or conference or in professional sports
  • Managerial experience
  • Experience in communicating with students, staff and campus leadership

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters or a terminal degree
  • Prior responsibilities leading an external unit(s) with revenue generating expectations
  • Experience at an executive level that demonstrates the potential for successful leadership of external affairs in a collegiate environment
  • Experience in successfully working with student groups and campus leadership
  • Experience in leading game day management and execution, along with social media and brand management background

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to effectively and creatively manage complex issues and relationships; hire, supervise, lead and motivate staff, and develop, analyze and meet revenue targets
  • Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, and self-motivation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be willing to lead while also contributing in a hands-on manner as necessary
  • Social media platforms, such as Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram and other emerging platforms
  • Creative platforms, such as Canva and Adobe Express
