Job Description Summary
Laboratory Coordinator and Technician supports all the laboratory activities within the Chemical, Paper and Biomedical Engineering (CPB) Department. Ensures smooth operation, safety, cleanliness, organization, maintenance, and improvements of CPB labs. This position will be a full time temporary position during training until the permanent position is vacated 12/31/24.
Job Description
The CPB Lab Coordinator and Technician will ensure smooth and safe operation of teaching and research laboratories; purchase, upgrade, maintain, and dispose of equipment; maintain an inventory of spare parts and normal laboratory supplies; identify and address safety concerns in the laboratories; monitor student activities in the laboratories; supervise student laboratory assistants; support faculty’s scholarly research activities and assist students’ projects as appropriate; help the department to conduct lab tours and demonstrations; serve as a point of contact or liaison where appropriate; carry out activities to improve the lab facilities; maintain a clean and safe lab environment and meet department laboratory needs as determined by the CPB Chair. This position will be a full time temporary position during training until the permanent position is vacated 12/31/24.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required: Background in one or more of the following: engineering or engineering technology, manufacturing, equipment maintenance, laboratory maintenance or experience in a laboratory environment, mechanical aptitude, machine shop equipment operations, or related field; minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
- Consideration may be given to candidates with Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology or related field, industrial experience in a production and/or design environment including general maintenance skills, familiarity with manufacturing equipment including paper manufacturing facilities and pilot paper machine operation/maintenance, familiarity with programming, microcontrollers, PLCs, or the operation of additive manufacturing equipment, familiarity with lab procedures and records maintenance, or experience in an instructional environment (academic or industrial training program).
